TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to inform the General Public that with effect from 24th September 2007, all requests for Consular documents, such as: passport renewal, passport re-issue, Emergency Travel Certificate (ETC), authentication of documents, age declaration letter, identification letter, etc should be forwarded with a processing fee of $20.00 (twenty US dollars only) in money order made payable to the Embassy of Nigeria, Washington, DC.  The processing fee is in addition to the regular fees chargeable for such request/s which should also be made payable in money order only to the Embassy of Nigeria, Washington, DC.

 

MACHINE REDABLE PASSPORT BOOKLETS NOW AVAILABLE

The Embassy wishes to inform the Nigerian public that Machine Readable passport (MRP) booklets are now available for issuance and to re-iterate that they remain tenable and valid till 2010.

The immigration office which handles visa and passport applications is open to the public between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Mondays - Thursdays except on public holidays.

All visa applications that are walked in will be processed within 3 to 4 working days if the requirements are met. Forms that are not duly completed, signed and dated or with incomplete requirements, and supporting documents will not be accepted. If mailed in, allow a processing time of 1-2 weeks. Please note that these processing times are subject to change especially in summer and during the Christmas period.

Public Notice:Loss of Passports

This is to inform holders of Nigerian Passports of a new requirement for payment of a non-refundable fee for lost passports at the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington D.C. and the Consulates General in New York and Atlanta.

All applications for lost passport are sent to the Nigerian Immigration Headquarters in Abuja for approval. Lost passports can ONLY be replaced when the necessary approval is received from Abuja. Once the approval is obtained, a new passport will be issued after the payment of $385.00 in money order. To apply for a lost passport, fill out the lost passport form and new passport form and mail to the Embassy of Nigeria, in Washington, DC.
